Trivium

Trivium is an American heavy metal band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 1999. The band's story begins with a middle school talent show where vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy - then in eighth grade - performed a Metallica cover that caught the attention of the band's original singer, who recruited him on the spot. When that singer departed, Heafy took over vocal duties and became the creative center of the group. The band chose the name Trivium from the Latin term for the intersection of three schools of learning - grammar, rhetoric, and logic - to reflect their blending of metalcore, melodic death metal, and thrash metal. After signing with German label Lifeforce Records and releasing their debut album Ember to Inferno in 2003, they added guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto and caught the attention of Roadrunner Records. Their major label debut Ascendancy (2005) became a breakthrough, named Album of the Year by Kerrang! magazine and going gold in the UK. The Crusade (2006) debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200 and cemented their status as one of metal's most prominent young bands, earning them tours with Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Korn. The band continued to evolve across a string of acclaimed albums - Shogun (2008), In Waves (2011), Vengeance Falls (2013), Silence in the Snow (2015), The Sin and the Sentence (2017), What the Dead Men Say (2020), and In the Court of the Dragon (2021) - each exploring different corners of the metal spectrum. The band received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2019 for the song Betrayer and has sold over one million albums worldwide.
