Finger Eleven is a Canadian rock band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 1990 originally under the name Rainbow Butt Monkeys before adopting their current name in 1996. The band's classic lineup of vocalist Scott Anderson, guitarists James Black and Rick Jackett, bassist Sean Anderson, and drummer Rich Beddoe developed a melodic hard rock and post-grunge sound that found a receptive audience on both Canadian and American rock radio through the late 1990s and 2000s. Their willingness to balance heavy guitar work with genuine melodic sophistication gave them a versatility that sustained their career through multiple shifts in the rock landscape.
Their early albums Tip (1995) and The Greyest of Blue Skies (2000) built their following and produced Canadian rock radio staples, but it was Finger Eleven (2003) that broke them to a wider international audience, producing the singles One Thing and Complicated that received extensive North American airplay. One Thing in particular became a defining rock radio track of its era, its combination of driving guitar work and Anderson's powerful, emotionally direct vocals connecting with mainstream rock audiences across North America. The album sold over a million copies in North America and established Finger Eleven as one of the most commercially successful Canadian rock acts of their generation.
Them vs. You vs. Me (2007) produced Paralyzer — their biggest international hit, a groove-driven, infectious hard rock track that reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and crossed over to mainstream pop radio, eventually earning platinum certification in both the United States and Canada and introducing the band to an audience far beyond their existing fanbase. The song's irresistible combination of a locked-in rhythmic groove, Anderson's confident vocal performance, and a chorus built for arenas made it one of the most memorable rock singles of the late 2000s. Five Crooked Lines (2010) and Life Turns Electric (2011) continued their recording output, and the band has remained active on the touring circuit for over three decades.
