The Dillinger Escape Plan were an American mathcore band from Morris Plains, New Jersey, formed in 1997 and widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding and viscerally intense live acts in the history of extreme music. Built around guitarist Ben Weinman and a series of remarkable vocalists — most notably Greg Puciato, who fronted the band from 2001 until their dissolution — Dillinger Escape Plan created a sound of almost impossible complexity: constantly shifting time signatures, spastic rhythmic violence, and passages of unexpected melodic beauty that made their music unlike anything else in heavy music. Albums including Calculating Infinity (1999), Miss Machine (2004), Ire Works (2007), and One of Us Is the Killer (2013) are considered landmarks of progressive metal and mathcore. Their live shows, infamous for their physical chaos and technical precision performed simultaneously, became legendary. The band played their final shows in December 2017.
