Behemoth

Behemoth is a Polish extreme metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991 by vocalist, guitarist, and primary creative force Adam "Nergal" Darski. Beginning as a raw black metal act, Behemoth evolved over three decades into one of the most sophisticated and musically ambitious bands in extreme metal, developing a blackened death metal sound that combines crushing technical brutality with elaborate occult and Satanic imagery, orchestral arrangements, and a visual aesthetic of almost operatic darkness. Their albums Demigod (2004), The Apostasy (2007), Evangelion (2009), and The Satanist (2014) are considered landmarks of extreme metal, with The Satanist in particular receiving widespread critical acclaim as one of the finest metal albums of the modern era. Nergal's widely publicized legal battles in Poland over blasphemy charges transformed him into a controversial cultural figure and brought Behemoth international attention well beyond metal circles.
