Trapt is an American post-grunge and alternative metal band formed in Los Gatos, California in the mid-1990s, built around vocalist Chris Taylor Brown and a core of friends who met in middle school and high school. The band started out playing NOFX covers before developing their own harder rock sound and began performing locally before any members had finished high school, already opening for Papa Roach in 1998. They self-released their debut album Amalgamation in 1999 and sold it at shows while grinding through the Northern California circuit. After members scattered to different universities the band regrouped in Los Angeles, secured a deal with Warner Bros. Records, and released their self-titled major label debut on November 5, 2002. The album was an immediate commercial success, certified platinum by the RIAA within a year and driven by the massive rock radio hit Headstrong, which reached number one on the alternative charts and number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Follow-up singles Still Frame and Echo built further on the album's success. Their second album Someone in Control followed in September 2005, reaching number 14 on the Billboard 200 and producing the singles Stand Up, Waiting, and Disconnected (Out of Touch). After parting ways with Warner Bros. the band continued releasing albums independently, including Only Through the Pain (2008), recorded while touring Mötley Crüe's Crüe Fest alongside Buckcherry and Papa Roach, and several more through the 2010s and 2020s. The band has sold over 2.5 million records worldwide.
