About Symphony X

Symphony X is an American progressive metal band from Middletown, New Jersey, founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Romeo, one of the most technically accomplished guitarists in the metal genre. The classic lineup of Romeo on guitar, Russell Allen on vocals, Michael Pinnella on keyboards, Thomas Miller on bass, and Jason Rullo on drums has remained remarkably stable across the band's career. Their sound fuses progressive rock complexity with heavy metal power, drawing from classical composition, mythology, and literary themes. Key albums include The Divine Wings of Tragedy (1997), V: The New Mythology Suite (2000), The Odyssey (2002) which features a single 24-minute track reimagining Homer, and Paradise Lost (2007). Romeo's guitar work is universally cited as among the most technically and melodically sophisticated in the genre, while Allen's vocal range and power are considered benchmark performances in heavy music. The band has toured extensively in the US and Europe and maintained their artistic vision across a career spanning three decades.
