Orange Goblin is a heavy metal band from London, England, formed in 1995 originally under the name Our Haunted Kingdom. The band chose their name as a tribute to their heroes - they wanted a colour in the name like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, and Black Sabbath, while the Goblin came from a shared love of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. The classic lineup of vocalist Ben Ward, guitarist Joe Hoare, bassist Martyn Millard, and drummer Chris Turner remained remarkably stable throughout most of their career. Their first three albums - Frequencies from Planet Ten (1997), Time Travelling Blues (1998), and The Big Black (2000) - established them as one of the finest acts in the stoner rock and doom metal underground, drawing on deep space rock and blues influences. Starting with Coup de Grace in 2002, produced with Scott Reeder and featuring Kyuss vocalist John Garcia on two tracks, the band shifted toward a more aggressive whiskey-fueled hard rock and punk-tinged sound. Over the following two decades they toured relentlessly, sharing stages with Dio, Alice Cooper, Goatsnake, and Sunn O))). A Eulogy for the Damned (2012) brought critical acclaim and a world tour spanning 161 shows across 28 countries. Their tenth and final studio album Science Not Fiction was released in July 2024, and in January 2025 the band announced they would split up following the conclusion of their 30th anniversary tour.
