Susan Tedeschi is an American singer and guitarist born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 9, 1970, widely regarded as one of the finest blues-rock vocalists of her generation. She studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and built her early career playing clubs in the Northeast before releasing her major-label debut Just Won't Burn in 1998, which went gold in the US and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2000. Her voice, a powerful, emotionally direct instrument steeped in soul and Southern blues, drew comparisons to Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. Tedeschi later married guitarist Derek Trucks, nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks, and in 2010 they merged their respective touring bands to form the Tedeschi Trucks Band, a twelve-piece ensemble that has become one of the most acclaimed live acts in American roots music. The Tedeschi Trucks Band has won Grammy Awards and toured the world as a major draw in the blues-rock and Americana space. Tedeschi continues to lead the band as co-frontperson alongside her husband, her voice and guitar work remaining central to one of the genre's most beloved ongoing projects.
