Enuff Z'Nuff is an American hard rock band from Blue Island, Illinois, formed in 1984 by singer Donnie Vie and bassist Chip Z'Nuff, born Greg Rybarski. The name is a phonetic spelling of enough's enough. Often described as power-pop princes in glam metal clothing, the band always had more Beatles and Cheap Trick in their DNA than Motley Crue, melodic and hook-driven at heart even as the late 1980s industry dressed them in hair and spandex. Their self-titled 1989 debut on Atco Records featured Derek Frigo on guitar and Vikki Foxx on drums and produced two Billboard Hot 100 hits in New Thing (number 67) and Fly High Michelle (number 47), both receiving heavy MTV rotation. They were signed to Arista by Clive Davis for Animals with Human Intelligence (1993). Guitarist Derek Frigo died of a drug overdose in 2004, and drummer Ricky Parent died of cancer in 2007. Donnie Vie departed the band multiple times, most recently around 2016, and Chip Z'Nuff has continued carrying the name forward across more than 30 years and 18 studio albums, building a devoted cult following particularly in Japan and Europe. Their songs have been covered by Paul Gilbert and the Wildhearts, a testament to songwriting quality the mainstream largely overlooked.
