Lynch Mob is an American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by guitarist George Lynch following his acrimonious departure from Dokken, the band he had helped build into one of the most successful hard rock acts of the 1980s. Lynch assembled the group around vocalist Oni Logan, bassist Anthony Esposito, and drummer Mick Brown — the latter also a Dokken alumnus — channeling the creative frustrations of his final Dokken years into a harder, more guitar-forward sound that gave his playing more room to breathe than the pop metal framework of his previous band had allowed.
Their debut album Wicked Sensation (1990) on Elektra Records was an immediate critical success, showcasing Lynch's extraordinary guitar work — his combination of raw blues feeling, legato technique, and aggressive tone made him one of the most distinctive players of the era — alongside Logan's powerful, soulful vocals. The album's blend of hard rock muscle and melodic accessibility found a receptive audience and demonstrated that Lynch's talents extended well beyond the confines of Dokken. Lynch Mob (1992) followed before the band dissolved as the hard rock landscape shifted beneath them in the wake of grunge's commercial breakthrough.
Lynch has reformed Lynch Mob multiple times over the subsequent decades with various lineups, releasing a consistent stream of albums including Smoke and Mirrors (2009), Babylon (2011), and Rebel (2015) that have maintained the band's reputation among hard rock fans who rate Lynch as one of the finest guitarists of his generation. His tone — achieved through custom ESP guitars and a signature Jackson model — remains immediately recognizable, and his influence on the generation of guitarists who grew up listening to Dokken and Lynch Mob is widely acknowledged throughout hard rock and metal.
