Fear Factory

Fear Factory's history has been marked by dramatic lineup upheavals alongside continued musical evolution. Digimortal served as the final part of a trilogy that started with Demanufacture and continued with Obsolete, and was the band's last album before officially breaking up in March 2002, though they reformed in 2003. The band reformed later that year minus founding member Dino Cazares, adding bassist Byron Stroud, and casting then-bassist Christian Olde Wolbers as guitarist. In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with founding guitarist Cazares returning, and Gene Hoglan being added as drummer, with Bell and Stroud both reprising their respective roles for the band's seventh studio album, Mechanize. Through it all, lead vocalist Burton C. Bell remained the only consistent member for 31 years until his departure in 2020, with guitarist Dino Cazares the only remaining original member in the band's lineup after his own seven-year sabbatical between 2002 and 2009. The band's influence on metal proved lasting, as Machine Head, Chimaira, Devin Townsend, Disturbed and Mnemic have all cited them as an influence , and they were the first metal band to enter the industrial/dance remix world with the pioneering "Fear Is the Mindkiller" EP, spawning countless imitators of their machine-gun-style rhythm section. Fear Factory remains active today under the direction of Dino Cazares. In September 2020, Bell issued a statement officially announcing his departure from Fear Factory , and the band is now helmed by Cazares, with vocalist Milo Silvestro, who replaced Bell in 2023, bassist Tony Campos and drummer Pete Webber rounding out the current lineup. The band's forthcoming album will be their first since 2021's Aggression Continuum and marks a major milestone for the current lineup as they continue recording new material with their rebuilt lineup. Even amid these changes, Fear Factory's legacy as one of the founding acts of industrial metal remains firmly intact, with their landmark run of albums still regarded as essential listening for fans of extreme and electronic-tinged metal alike.
