About Art Alexakis

Everclear formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1992, built around singer, guitarist, and songwriter Art Alexakis, who had previously worked through the country punk outfit Colorfinger in San Francisco before relocating north. Following a move to Portland, Alexakis placed an ad in The Rocket seeking a bass player and a drummer to form a new band, and had two respondents, Craig Montoya and Scott Cuthbert. Cuthbert was quickly replaced by Greg Eklund. The band's earliest work came together after Alexakis traded $400 worth of equipment for studio time, resulting in twelve songs that became the independently released debut, World of Noise. That scrappy, low-budget beginning captured the raw punk and grunge influences of the Pacific Northwest scene the band emerged from.
