Evanescence

The group's breakthrough arrived with their 2003 debut studio album, Fallen, released on Wind-up Records, which sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and helped the band win two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. Fueled by the massive singles "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal," the album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 with 141,000 copies sold in its first week, peaking at number three in June 2003. The record's success was staggering by any measure, as it became the seventh best-selling album of the 21st century and topped the charts in more than 10 countries. At the time of Fallen's creation, the band's notable lineup included Lee, Moody, Hodges, guitarist John LeCompt, bassist Will Boyd, and drummer Rocky Gray, though tensions during the album's massive touring cycle led to significant turnover.

Following Fallen, Evanescence continued to evolve through repeated lineup changes while maintaining Amy Lee as its constant creative core. The band released the live album Anywhere but Home in 2004, then returned with their second studio effort, The Open Door, in 2006, which sold more than five million copies. Personnel shifted repeatedly over the years, as David Hodges left in 2002, co-founder Moody left in 2003 (mid-tour), bassist Will Boyd in 2006, followed by guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray in 2007, and Terry Balsamo in 2015. The band toured extensively in support of their self-titled 2011 album alongside acts like The Pretty Reckless and Fair to Midland, and across its history, Evanescence has amassed a substantial trophy case, having won 24 awards and received 68 nominations from various organizations and publications. In more recent years, Evanescence has continued to record and tour with Amy Lee still at the helm, joined by longtime members Tim McCord, Troy McLawhorn, and Will Hunt. The band shifted stylistically over time, moving from the radio-friendly anthems of their early days into a shimmering, classically-inspired symphonic alternative outfit in the 2010s , releasing the orchestral reimagining Synthesis in 2017 and returning to original material with The Bitter Truth in 2021. Even decades after their debut, the band remains a defining name of early-2000s rock, with Fallen still regarded as one of the most influential rock albums of the 21st century. This archive holds a modest but meaningful piece of that long history. Wayne Dennon photographed Evanescence three times between 2004 and 2007, capturing the band during the very years its classic lineup was touring behind Fallen and The Open Door, across three different shows in three cities spanning two states. Those nights live on in 74 photographs preserved here, images that concertgoers and fans have returned to again and again, racking up 57,307 views over the years. In documenting Evanescence at that pivotal moment, Wayne's camera helped preserve a piece of the band's most transformative era, one frame at a time.
