The band's true breakthrough arrived with their second album. Their second album, The Fury of Our Maker's Hand, received a better reception with critics, and entered the Billboard 200 at number 117. The record was tracked far from the distractions of home, as it was produced at Sonic Ranch Studios, a remote pecan ranch outside El Paso, Texas, chosen because the band wanted isolation from friends, family, managers and girlfriends who would constantly interrupt. This heavier, more focused songwriting direction, paired with Fafara's increasingly ferocious vocal delivery, established DevilDriver as a serious force in groove and melodic death metal, setting the stage for a string of albums that would follow throughout the 2000s, including The Last Kind Words and Pray for Villains.

DevilDriver's career arc has been marked by steady chart growth and significant lineup evolution. Their 2011 album Beast, produced by Mark Lewis and recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, became a commercial high point, as it sold over 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at number 42 on the Billboard 200 chart . That album also closed a chapter, since it was their last album to feature longtime bassist Jon Miller, who left in 2011 and would return to the band a decade later in 2022, and it was also their last studio album released through Roadrunner Records . Subsequent releases like Winter Kills, Trust No One, and the two-part Dealing with Demons saga continued to chart internationally, while the band toured relentlessly worldwide and cemented itself as, in the words of its own label, groove metal legends who remain full speed ahead after numerous world tours and ten full length albums .

Today DevilDriver remains an active touring and recording act, still fronted by Dez Fafara after more than two decades. The band continues to evolve its lineup, and looking ahead, their upcoming eleventh studio album, Strike and Kill, marks a notable reunion, as it is the first album to feature founding bassist Jon Miller since Beast in 2011, alongside guitarists Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold and drummer Davier Pérez . Across genre shifts and member turnover, the band has retained a reputation as one of modern groove metal's most durable and consistently punishing live acts, influencing a generation of heavier bands that followed in their wake.

DevilDriver's history intersects with this archive through Wayne Dennon's own concert photography. Wayne photographed the band on two separate occasions in 2004, capturing them early in their career across two different cities, and those images, 45 photographs in total, remain preserved here as part of his broader body of work documenting live music from 2002 onward.
