Crystal Method — Concert Photography by Wayne Dennon

About Crystal Method

The Crystal Method was formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1993 by Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, two friends who met at UNLV, where Jordan taught Kirkland how to DJ, and when Jordan moved to Los Angeles to work for a producer, Kirkland took over his job DJing at the local club before also relocating to L.A., where they formed the duo in 1993 . Absorbed into the city's underground club culture, Jordan and Kirkland became immersed in L.A.'s underground club scene, and on the strength of one of their demos, signed to Steve Melrose and Justin King's City of Angels imprint in 1994, releasing their debut single "Keep Hope Alive" soon after . That track became an early calling card, reaching number 14 on the Billboard club chart in the U.S. and denting the U.K. pop chart at number 71 , establishing the pair as pioneers of a distinctly American strain of electronic music built on breakbeats and acid house textures.
