Placebo

Placebo — Concert Photography by Wayne Dennon

About Placebo

Placebo formed in London in 1994, brought together by singer-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal, who had both attended the American International School of Luxembourg, although they did not interact at the time as they were part of different social circles, and met by chance in 1994 in London. The pair recruited Swedish drummer Robert Schultzberg, who had known Stefan Olsdal from a school band in Sweden in 1993 and joined Placebo when the band formed in September 1994. The trio built a raw, glam-tinged alternative rock sound, drawing on influences like Sonic Youth, Pixies, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Nirvana , while cultivating an androgynous, gender-bending image that set them apart from the "lad culture" of mid 90s Britpop.
