Over the years they toured with many influential acts, including The Crown, Zao, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Thrice, and Soilwork, and also played 2004's Ozzfest. Darkest Hour's career arc continued through further critically respected records and steady lineup evolution. Deliver Us debuted at number 110 on the Billboard album charts, and their later effort The Eternal Return garnered them an even higher position at number 104 , with Schleibaum describing that record as more "pissed off" and "badass" after earlier attempts to push the band's sound in a proggier direction. Guitarist Kris Norris, a defining voice on Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us, exited in 2008, while drummer Ryan Parrish departed in 2011 and was eventually replaced by Travis Orbin. The band's eighth self-titled studio album, released in 2014 through Sumerian Records, was the first to feature bassist Aaron Deal and drummer Travis Orbin. The band rebounded artistically with 2017's Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora, released via Southern Lord Records and produced by Kurt Ballou of Converge, funded through a fan-supported crowdfunding campaign , which charted at 42 on the Billboard 200, a peak for the band, and marked a stylistic shift in the band's discography. After Godless Prophets, Darkest Hour largely stepped back from full-length output before returning with new material. Following a seven-year hiatus from full-length releases, the band issued Perpetual | Terminal on February 23, 2024, through MNRK Heavy.
