About Goatwhore

Goatwhore formed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997, rising from the ashes of the acclaimed sludge metal outfit Acid Bath after that band dissolved. The band was formed by guitarist and backing vocalist Sammy "Pierre" Duet, previously the lead guitarist for Acid Bath, and the origins date back to 1991 with Sammy and drummer Zak Nolan, when the project was called "Killgore," releasing demos before changing its name to Goatwhore in 1997. Former Soilent Green singer L. Ben Falgoust II, guitarist Ben Stout, bassist Patrick Bruders, and drummer Zak Nolan completed the early lineup, which debuted with the demo Serenades to the Tides of Blood, followed by the band's proper debut LP, The Eclipse of Ages Into Black, in early 2000. From the start, the band forged a sound described as "distinctly southern" , fusing black metal, death metal, thrash, and the sludge-heavy DNA of the New Orleans scene that produced acts like Acid Bath, Crowbar, and Soilent Green.
