Hellyeah

About Hellyeah

Hellyeah formed in Dallas, Texas, in 2006, born out of an idea that had been simmering since 2000. The idea to form a supergroup originated in 2000 on the Tattoo the Earth tour, although plans were constantly put on hold due to scheduling conflicts. The project finally came together when Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett connected with Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell and bassist Jerry Montano during Ozzfest's touring downtime, trading riffs and ideas that felt too loose and southern-fried for their primary projects. The spark intensified when former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott agreed to climb behind the kit after months of persuasion , giving the band its rhythmic identity and marking a personal turning point for Paul, whose brother and former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell had been murdered onstage in 2004. The band's sound blended groove metal with a Southern rock swagger, and their name was settled in the fall of 2006 when on the morning of October 31st, 2006 news broke that a band had decided on a name for itself, an ensemble that would include Nothingface bassist Jerry Montano and guitarist Tom Maxwell, Mudvayne singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, and one-time Pantera/Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott .
