Mark Tremonti & Myles Kennedy

Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy came together as the driving creative force of Alter Bridge, a hard rock band formed in Orlando, Florida in 2004. The group emerged from the wreckage of Creed, as guitarist Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips regrouped after that band's split and recruited Myles Kennedy, previously the frontman of Spokane, Washington outfit The Mayfield Four, as vocalist and rhythm guitarist. After their former band Creed became inactive in 2003, Tremonti and Phillips formed a new band with former bandmate Marshall and new member Kennedy; Alter Bridge was formally unveiled in January 2004, months before Creed's official breakup in June. The band's name had simple origins, since Tremonti, a Detroit native, lived near Alter Road where there was a bridge, and he put the two together for a moniker. The band's breakthrough came quickly with its debut, One Day Remains, released in August 2004. After signing with Wind-up Records, Alter Bridge released their debut album One Day Remains in August 2004, much of which was written by Tremonti the previous year, and although the album received mixed reviews, it reached No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA in November 2004. The lead single "Open Your Eyes" became one of the band's signature songs, and the album's track "Metalingus" gained wide exposure as the entrance theme for WWE wrestler Edge. True commercial and critical validation, however, arrived with 2007's Blackbird, whose title track solo earned lasting acclaim; in 2007, Blackbird's title track took flight on the wings of the "Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time," as voted in Guitarist Magazine, while countless fans etched its lyrics and logo onto their bodies. Over the following two decades, Alter Bridge built a career defined by consistency, heavy touring, and a steadily growing catalog. One Day Remains was followed by Blackbird in 2007, then AB III in 2010, and from Blackbird through Fortress the band worked with producer Michael Baskette, with AB III producing one of Alter Bridge's best-known chart results when "Isolation" reached No. 1 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart in 2011. The group then entered its Napalm period in 2016, releasing The Last Hero that year, followed by Walk the Sky and Pawns & Kings in 2022, with The Last Hero also becoming a major UK chart entry, reaching No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart. Alongside Alter Bridge, both musicians built substantial parallel careers: Tremonti launched his own hard rock solo band, while Kennedy became a fixture in the wider rock world, most notably as the voice of Slash's solo project. He was asked to join Alter Bridge by Mark Tremonti in late 2003, formally joining in 2004, and has been with the band ever since, releasing five studio albums with the group. While Alter Bridge was on tour in 2008, Kennedy collaborated with former members of Led Zeppelin on an undisclosed project that never fully materialized, and he then started working with Slash, featuring on the guitarist's 2010 eponymous solo album before serving as Slash's touring vocalist. That partnership, billed as Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, has produced multiple studio albums and extensive world tours, cementing Kennedy's reputation as one of hard rock's most in-demand voices.

Alter Bridge remains active today, continuing to tour internationally and record new material, with its eighth studio album released in January 2026, and the band has sold over five million records worldwide while earning festival headline slots and arena dates from the Royal Albert Hall to Download Festival. Tremonti and Kennedy's songwriting partnership, prized for pairing soaring melodic vocals with technical, metal-influenced guitar work, has made Alter Bridge one of modern hard rock's most respected and enduring acts, admired by fellow musicians and fans alike for its musicianship and its unusually drama-free, hardworking reputation. It is fitting that this band holds a place in Wayne Dennon's photographic record.
