As the collective grew, so did its influence and reach. Inspired by Motown's assembly line of sound, George Clinton gradually put together a collective of over 50 musicians and recorded the ensemble during the '70s both as Parliament and Funkadelic. The group's legacy was cemented in 1997 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. That same year, Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic were inducted into Guitar Center's Hollywood Rock Walk, and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NAACP Image Awards. His songwriting and production work extended far beyond his own bands as well; in 1985 Clinton produced the Red Hot Chili Peppers album Freaky Styley, and during the 1980s and 90s became one of the most sampled musicians by rappers. In 2019, recognition of his life's work continued when Clinton's innovative artistry earned him a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Well into his eighties, Clinton has remained remarkably active. Approaching his 83rd birthday, Clinton was as busy as ever, touring while working on recording projects featuring collaborations with top artists from the last four decades. He has also branched into visual art, with a career as a fine artist gaining prominence through a solo exhibition at the Jeffrey Deitch gallery titled The Rhythm of Vision. His enduring stature in American music was underscored again in January 2024, when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an honor attended by admirers including Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis. Clinton's decades-long body of work, spanning doo-wop roots, funk innovation, and hip-hop influence, has secured his place as one of the most important and imitated figures in American popular music.

That enduring, larger-than-life legacy is part of why George Clinton's performances have long been a draw for concert photographers, including Wayne Dennon, who captured the band in concert once, in 2005.
