About Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow was born on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri, into a musical family. Her father was an attorney and her mother was a piano teacher who exposed her to jazz, blues, and swing music at an early age. Crow graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music composition, performance, and education, and after college worked as a music teacher before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. In Los Angeles she found early work singing commercial jingles before landing a defining break: Sheryl Crow began her career by recording jingles for advertising clients, before becoming a backup singer for stars like Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart. Those years on the road, harmonizing behind major stars, sharpened her voice and songwriting instincts before she ever released a record of her own.
