About Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Kenny Wayne Shepherd was born Kenneth Wayne Brobst on June 12, 1977, in Shreveport, Louisiana, into a household steeped in music thanks to his father's work in radio and concert promotion. He began playing at the age of seven, figuring out Muddy Waters' licks from his father's record collection, having never taken formal lessons. At age 13, he was invited on-stage by New Orleans bluesman Bryan Lee and held his own for several hours, after which he decided on music as a career, forming his own band featuring lead vocalist Corey Sterling and gaining early exposure through club dates and radio conventions. His raw, aggressive guitar work drew early comparisons to his mentor Stevie Ray Vaughan, and by his mid-teens he had already contributed guitar work to blues recordings alongside legends like Willie Dixon.
