About Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani was born on July 15, 1956, in Westbury, New York, and picked up the guitar as a teenager after learning of Jimi Hendrix's death. Long before he became a recording artist, he worked as a guitar instructor, with many of his former students achieving fame, including Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan, and Alex Skolnick . He studied jazz theory intensively before eventually relocating to California, where he began recording his own instrumental material, releasing his debut album "Not of This Earth" in 1986 and establishing the melodic, technically ambitious instrumental rock style that would define his career.
