About Anberlin

Anberlin formed in Winter Haven, Florida in 2002, when singer Stephen Christian and bassist Deon Rexroat, veterans of an earlier Christian punk outfit called SaGoh 24/7, joined with guitarist Joseph Milligan to pursue a heavier, more rock-oriented direction after being approached by Tooth & Nail Records. Their five-song demo got them signed with the Seattle-based Christian indie label, Tooth & Nail, and barely a year after their formation, they released their debut album, Blueprints for the Black Market. That 2003 record, produced by Aaron Sprinkle, introduced a sound one critic described as an alternative pop/rock blend, closer to the mature stylings of Third Eye Blind than straightforward emo, and the band built a following through relentless touring alongside acts like Fall Out Boy and Story of the Year.
