Kings of Leon is an American rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999, consisting of brothers Caleb Followill on vocals and guitar, Nathan Followill on drums, Jared Followill on bass, and their cousin Matthew Followill on guitar. The band grew up as the sons of a traveling Pentecostal preacher, moving constantly across the American South before settling in Nashville and channeling their unconventional upbringing β religious, rootsy, and disconnected from mainstream culture β into a sound that drew from Southern rock, garage rock, and alternative influences into something that felt simultaneously raw and sophisticated. Their debut album Youth and Young Manhood (2003) announced their arrival with a swaggering, blues-drenched garage rock sound that earned immediate critical attention on both sides of the Atlantic.
