About Damian Marley & Nas

Damian Marley and Nas & Damian Marley trace their partnership back to individual careers rooted in very different corners of Black music. Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, the youngest son of reggae icon Bob Marley, built his own reputation in Jamaica through the 1990s and 2000s as a producer and vocalist working across genres with family members and outside collaborators. Nas, born Nasir Jones in Queensbridge, New York, had already established himself as one of hip hop's most respected lyricists, a legacy that reaches back to his celebrated guest verse on Main Source's 1991 track and his landmark solo debut. The two artists' paths first crossed creatively in 2005, when Nas and Damian Marley initially connected for "Road To Zion," a song from Marley's third studio album, 2005's Welcome to Jamrock. That pairing, which won them a Grammy, planted the seed for something larger.
