About Coheed and Cambria

Coheed and Cambria formed in Nyack, New York, tracing back to 1995 when guitarist Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever played together in short-lived projects before settling into a lineup with drummer Josh Eppard. Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever's early band called Toxic Parents evolved into a group called Beautiful Loser, which broke up by June 1995 after an argument over gas money. The remaining trio then took the name Shabütie , and it was not until a formative 1998 trip to Paris that Sanchez's side project developed into the concept that would give the band its eventual name, drawn from two protagonists of an original science fiction story, and adopted as a unifying theme for future albums. They officially became Coheed and Cambria in 2001 upon signing to Equal Vision Records, pairing progressive rock ambition with hooks rooted in emo and post-hardcore, and building their catalog around Sanchez's ongoing sci-fi saga, The Amory Wars.
