Pretty Boy Floyd

As the rock landscape shifted in the early 1990s, Pretty Boy Floyd's momentum stalled. As tastes shifted from pop-metal to grunge in the early '90s, Pretty Boy Floyd soon found themselves without a label, and ceased operations in 1994. The band also weathered a naming dispute with a same-named Canadian glam act, which became embroiled in a copyright dispute, though the Canadian group eventually agreed to surrender use of the name after releasing its own debut the same year. Pretty Boy Floyd's music found its way onto film soundtracks as well, including an early demo featured on The Karate Kid Part III. The band did not stay dormant for long, reuniting later in the decade. The group reunited in the late '90s, issuing an EP titled A Tale of Sex, Designer Drugs, and the Death of Rock n' Roll in 1998, and after a lengthy hiatus re-emerged in 2004 with Size Really Does Matter on the Deadline imprint. Pretty Boy Floyd has continued recording and performing well into the 2000s and beyond, with vocalist Steve Summers remaining the group's constant anchor through numerous lineup changes. The band went on to release two full-length efforts, 2017's Public Enemies, followed by Rock & Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire), a collection of demos, covers, and re-recordings, in 2021. Decades after its debut, the band's sound and story still resonate with fans of the genre, and despite the changing tides in music since the 1990s, the band has maintained a loyal following and continues to tour and release new music, keeping the glam metal torch burning. Their enduring appeal lies in capturing, unapologetically, the sound and spectacle of the Sunset Strip at its glammiest.
