Warrant

Warrant is an American glam metal band formed in Hollywood, California in 1984, best known for their party anthems, melodic power ballads, and their run of multi-platinum success at the peak of the Sunset Strip era. The band cycled through early lineups before solidifying around vocalist Jani Lane, guitarists Erik Turner and Joey Allen, bassist Jerry Dixon, and drummer Steven Sweet - a lineup that became the classic Warrant. Signed to Columbia Records, their debut album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich arrived in January 1989, debuting at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and going double platinum on the strength of the power ballad Heaven, which hit number two on the Hot 100. They toured alongside Poison, Mötley Crüe, Queensrÿche, and Cinderella and made the most of MTV's appetite for big-hair rock videos. Their follow-up Cherry Pie (1990) was another double platinum hit, its title track becoming one of the most recognizable songs of the entire glam metal era and a permanent fixture of rock radio. Dog Eat Dog (1992) was their most critically praised album and earned a gold certification, but the arrival of grunge accelerated a commercial decline the band shared with most of their Sunset Strip contemporaries. Through a revolving door of lineup changes and label situations the band kept releasing music - Ultraphobic (1995), Belly to Belly (1996) - before Lane departed. Lane rejoined for a 2008 reunion but died of acute alcohol poisoning on August 11, 2011 at age 47. The band has continued with vocalist Robert Mason and remains active on the rock festival and touring circuit with five albums reaching combined international sales of over 10 million.
