About Andrew W.K.

Andrew W.K., born Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier, was born on May 9, 1979, in California and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after his family relocated there due to his father's academic position at the University of Michigan . As a teenager he immersed himself in the Detroit music underground, performing in a number of local bands before eventually moving to New York, where he produced his first recordings under the Andrew W.K. moniker . Those early Michigan years found him playing in a number of Detroit-based punk rock and heavy metal bands, including The Pterodactyls, Lab Lobotomy, Music Band, and Mr. Velocity Hopkins, mostly on drums , before he relocated to New York City in 1997 to pursue music full time.
